How do you use Imafuji?
I use Imafuji not only when going to Mt. Fuji but also from the comfort of my when, because it’s the only place where I can get real-time information on local weather observations, so I find it remarkably useful! Most recently I used it when I went the the 5th Station to take pictures and do birdwatching.
How would you describe Imafuji in one phrase?
The website most certainly lives up to its name. It tells you about Mt.Fuji now [今(Ima)]. I live on the 7th floor in Kawakuchi and although it’s far I am grateful that I can see the east side of the Mt. Fuji every day! When our guest reach the summit, I am always happy to see there excitement: “Ah, it’s Mt. Fuji!”
Why is this important and necessary?
When heading from the Chuo Expressway towards Koshu and the Southern Alps, the sight of Mount Fuji is majestic and beautiful, so I am very happy to be born in a country with mountains. Conversely, when I see cloud formations such as umbrella clouds or hanging clouds, it serves as a weather indicator, reminding me to be cautious and to assess the situation carefully, as the mountains nearby may also face worsening conditions. I use these signs as part of my mountain weather judgment. In the past, among climbers, the temperature difference between Omaezaki and the summit of Mount Fuji was once used as a standard to estimate the probability of lightning strikes.
Why is this important and necessary?
Check the four major factors of safe climbing: physical strength, technique, equipment, and knowledge, and make sure you prepare enough to safely climb.
What do you like about Mt. Fuji?
I love that you can easily recognize Mt. Fuji from afar! I could see it from the Tama river where I played as a child, there were songs in my school time about Mt. Fuji, and you can see it from the Northern Alps! It’s the best!
What’s the best thing about Imafuji?
Real-time weather observation data for each climbing route is available, so you can check detailed weather conditions. Also, Fuji Granpa’s explanations are cute and easy to understand! I think I can also learn from him.
Is there something else you want to share about Mt. Fuji or Imafuji?
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of those involved, issues such as the “White River Problem”—which once stood in the way of Mt. Fuji’s recognition as a World Heritage Site—have been resolved. Across Japan, growing attention is being given to the issue of overuse in natural areas beyond Mt. Fuji, and steps toward improvement are steadily underway. I hope Mt. Fuji and Imafuji will continue to lead the way in solving these important challenges.

PROFILE
Originating from Tokyo, I obtained permission for secondary employment while working at a trust bank in Tokyo and started my career as a mountain guide. After retiring from the bank, I dedicated myself full-time to guiding (with over 10 years of guiding experience). Currently, I guide children and families with the "Yamatami Kids Mountain Club Tokyo Branch" and participate in practical weather judgment training organized by the Tokyo Mountain Federation Weather Committee, leading guided tours in mountains throughout the Kanto and neighboring prefectures. In fall 2025, I plan to begin activities as a new GeoGuide, and preparations are underway.
