How do you use Imafuji?

At the trail station, weather observation information obtained from Imafuji to climbers, hikers, trail runners, tourists, etc. is provided. We also use it as a safety awareness tool for climbers with a climbing index of C, and those climbing with light equipment or bullet gear, by displaying images from a 360-degree camera at the summit on signage installed at the trail station.

Why is this important and necessary?

Mount Fuji is an isolated peak rising over 3,000 meters in altitude. The difference in elevation between the summit and the foothills, such as the New 5th Station on the Gotemba Trail, is more than 2,300 meters. This significant elevation difference results in large temperature variations, and rapid changes in weather are common. Additionally, lightning frequently occurs on Mount Fuji during the summer, and there are few places to take shelter, making it very dangerous. The winds from Suruga Bay and Sagami Bay mix complexly with the winds from the north, creating unstable air currents at high altitudes. This has led to incidents in the past, including a plane crash in March 1966 that resulted in the deaths of 124 passengers. Strong winds can cause rocks to be blown around, making it difficult to even stand. Therefore, having accurate weather information for Mount Fuji is essential.

What would you like to say to the climbers?

It's completely different from climbing a nearby mountain! The courage to stop climbing when the weather, physical condition, and equipment are all in perfect condition is also important! Mount Fuji will not run away! [Disasters during the mountain's opening period] From Shizuoka Prefectural Police 70 people lost (2 dead, 4 seriously injured) 12 people lost due to fatigue, 26 due to illness, 19 due to falls, 10 due to getting lost, 3 due to other reasons.

What do you like about Mt. Fuji

-An object of faith, a source of artistic inspiration, and a mountain that Japanese people can be proud of -A mountain that symbolizes Japan and Japanese culture -A majestic mountain that looks different every day, so you'll never get bored of visiting it

What’s the best thing about Imafuji?

It's good that it tells you the current weather (every 10 minutes or hour) instead of just a weather forecast. You can check the weather information for free on the mountain route, maps, graphs, etc., and you can also learn how to see precipitation by observing the clouds. I also like that you can check the latest weather at the summit with photos and observation data.

Please tell us about any Mt. Fuji-related activities/projects you are currently involved in.

At the Gotemba New 5th Station Trail Station, we provide information about Mt. Fuji, safety awareness, and other clean-up activities. We also provide hiking course guide activities at the request of tourist associations and tour companies.
