Mt. Fuji Trivia

Weather Observation Station Project

With each station more information about Mt. Fujis are weather revealed.

What is the Weather Observation Station Project

Weather instruments have been installed at the summit and along various trails of Mt. Fuji to conduct comprehensive weather observations. Until now, general climbers have had access only to weather observation data from the Japan Meteorological Agency’s AMeDAS station at the summit. However, the data from the Fuji Summit AMeDAS station have been limited to just three elements: temperature, relative humidity, and atmospheric pressure, with sunshine duration observed during the summer. Information on precipitation, wind direction, and wind speed has not been provided.
In addition, around the Mt. Fuji area, only nine AMeDAS stations are available (in Kawaguchiko, Yamanaka, Gotemba, Mishima, Fuji, Shiraito, Nanbu, Kiriiwa, and Furuze). For climbers who encounter rapidly changing weather conditions on Mt. Fuji, the need for weather observation information from both the summit and various trails has been essential.
To meet this need, weather equipment has been set up around Mt. Fuji, providing critical information for safe climbing. This platform will be used to share records and updates about the activities of the project.
